Modular Outdoor Kitchens NZ
A modular outdoor kitchen is planned from individual cabinet units that work together as one layout. Instead of deciding only where the BBQ goes, you can organise cooking, preparation, storage and serving around the space you have and the meals you enjoy making.
Forge Outdoor's modular system uses welded, internally reinforced powder-coated aluminium cabinetry with adjustable feet and 20mm sintered stone benchtops. Our Pukekohe-based family business supplies and installs the kitchen, with dimensions, appliance fit and site arrangements confirmed before ordering.
Start with a working sequence
Think through a familiar meal. Where do you set down ingredients, rinse vegetables, prepare food and move it onto the grill? Where will a hot tray go when it comes off? The answers help determine which modules belong next to each other and where clear bench space is most useful.
A straight run can suit a narrow patio or courtyard. An L-shaped arrangement can provide a return for preparation where there is room. Larger layouts still need clear walkways and space for drawers, cupboard doors and appliance lids. Measure with outdoor furniture in position rather than treating every empty area as cabinet space.
Gas BBQ and kamado modules
Explore gas BBQ kitchens with Artusi, Bull Outlaw and Weber modules. Plan preparation and landing space beside the appliance, along with storage for the tools you use most. Tell us the exact model so its fit and installation requirements can be checked.
A kamado kitchen can be planned around Big Green Egg, Kamado Joe or Primo. Allow for the lid to open, access for ash removal and safe handling of food. If you combine gas and charcoal cooking, retain useful working space between the two rather than putting appliances into every available position.
Sink, fridge and pizza oven modules
A sink can reduce trips indoors, but it needs water and drainage planned for the actual location. Tapware is not supplied. Your own tradespeople carry out water, gas and electrical work, so involve them before service positions are fixed.
A fridge module should be considered alongside the selected appliance's ventilation and exposure requirements. Keep access for cleaning and servicing in mind. A pizza oven arrangement around the Gozney Dome XL also needs suitable positioning and the manufacturer's clearances, as well as space to prepare and handle food.
Storage deserves the same attention as appliances. Make room for boards, serving dishes and cooking tools. Decide what belongs outside and what needs separate dry storage, then arrange cupboards and drawers where those items will actually be used.
Materials that work together
Read about our aluminium outdoor kitchen cabinets and 20mm sintered stone benchtops. Aluminium avoids rot and moisture-related swelling, while the powder-coated finish still requires cleaning and coastal care. Use boards and trivets on the stone and follow the supplied maintenance instructions.
Adjustable feet help with final levelling, but the kitchen needs a suitable prepared base. For an existing deck, ask your builder to check structural suitability where needed. Photographs of steps, gates and side access help us plan how the units will reach the installation area.
Can you add modules later?
Modularity gives you a way to plan for future changes, but adding a unit later is not guaranteed to be a simple extension. Allow physical space now and consider future power, water and drainage requirements with your tradespeople. Benchtops, end panels and appliance positions may need changes when the layout grows.
Before relying on a future addition, ask us about compatibility with the current range. Finishes, dimensions and appliance models can change over time. A staged plan works best when you understand which parts can stay and which might need to be revised.

Your questions, answered
Does modular mean flat-pack?
No. Modular describes a kitchen arranged from individual cabinet units. Forge's cabinetry is welded and internally reinforced, and we supply and install the agreed layout.
Can I combine a gas BBQ and a kamado?
Yes, where the space and selected appliance requirements allow it. Include clear working space, ventilation, lid opening and access for cleaning in the design.
Can I add a sink or fridge later?
Potentially, but confirm module compatibility, available space and service requirements first. Changes may also affect benchtops, panels and appliance positions.
Who connects the kitchen's services?
Your own tradespeople carry out gas, water and electrical work. Tapware is not supplied. Coordinate service positions with the confirmed cabinet layout.
