FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where are these made?

The kitchens are designed in New Zealand and manufactured to our specification at our partner facility in Foshan, China. Marine-grade 6063-T5 aluminium extrusion, full seamless welding. Sintered stone benchtops produced in the same supply chain. The fireplaces are a separate cast concrete product range.

Why aluminium and not stainless steel?

Stainless looks the part but pits in coastal salt air over time and shows every fingerprint. Aluminium with a powder-coated finish is dimensionally stable, does not rust, and holds its colour through NZ UV. The 18 mm extruded panels and seamless welding are stronger than the thin-gauge stainless cabinet bodies on most outdoor kitchens.

Will it survive coastal conditions?

Yes. The structure is marine-grade aluminium and the powder coating is UV-stable. For homes within a few hundred metres of the coast, we recommend rinsing with fresh water occasionally to clear salt residue. No sealing, no oiling, no annual maintenance.

Can I install it myself?

No, not as a standard purchase. The cabinets ship flat-packed to keep freight cost down, but installation is not a DIY job for most people. Delivery and install are part of the price. If you are a builder doing a project for a client and want to handle install yourself, talk to us. We will consider supply-only on a case-by-case basis.

Do you install outside Auckland?

Auckland region only as standard. Outside Auckland is a project-by-project conversation. Email us with your address and we will come back with a quote that includes freight and travel.

How long from order to installed kitchen?

10 to 14 weeks typical. 30 days production, around 35 days shipping, plus customs clearance and scheduling. Faster if we have stock on hand. Ask before you order. Fireplaces are also 10 to 14 weeks.

What BBQs fit?

Our BBQ cabinets are sized for standard 91 cm (36 inch) and 120 cm (42 inch) drop-in BBQs. Most major brands available in New Zealand fit. We will confirm fit for your specific BBQ before you order.

Do you supply the BBQ?

No. We supply the cabinet, you choose your own BBQ. We can put you in touch with our preferred BBQ partners if you want a recommendation.

What about the kamado?

The kamado cabinet bay in our Host and Chef kitchens is sized for a Big Green Egg Large or equivalent. Confirm your model with us before ordering.

Can I customise the layout?

The published kitchens are our standard configurations. We can mix modules from those sets if you have a specific layout in mind, but it is a quote conversation rather than an online order. Email us with rough dimensions and a list of bays you want.

What colours are available?

Black, white, khaki, and grey on the kitchens. All four are available across the range. Powder-coated finish. The fireplaces come in natural concrete only.

Are prices inclusive of GST?

Prices on the site are shown ex-GST. GST is added at checkout. So a kitchen listed at $19,990 + GST will total $22,989 including GST.

Can I pay in instalments?

50% deposit on order confirmation, balance before delivery. We do not currently offer finance. If you need a finance solution, talk to your bank or your usual broker.

How do I clean it?

A damp cloth on most days. Mild soap and water for grease spatters on the cabinet panels. Fresh water rinse occasionally if you are near the coast. Do not use abrasives or solvents on the powder-coated surfaces or the sintered stone benchtops.

What if something breaks years later?

Spare panels, doors, and hardware are available through us. Because it is a modular system, individual components can be replaced without rebuilding the kitchen. Email us with photos and we will work out what you need.

Can I see one in person?

We do not have a public showroom yet. If you are seriously considering an order we will arrange a viewing. Email hello@forgeoutdoor.co.nz.

Outdoor fireplaces

Tell me about the outdoor fireplaces.

Two cast concrete models. Single flue (more compact, $11,990 + GST installed) and twin flue (larger, $19,990 + GST installed). Wood-burning, semi-customisable, installed in Auckland. See the fireplace range.

Why is the fireplace concrete and not aluminium?

Aluminium would warp under sustained high heat from a wood fire. Cast concrete is the right material for a wood-burning fireplace. It handles the heat, develops character with use, and will not rust, fade, or warp.

Does the fireplace need building consent?

Possibly, depending on your council and your site. We will flag this at quote stage and help you understand what is required.

Can I get a kitchen and fireplace together?

Yes. We can quote them as a package and coordinate the install. The two are separate structures so the order of works can be staged if needed.
