Terrasse, Cour or Pavillon: choosing the right Forge outdoor kitchen
The hardest part of buying an outdoor kitchen is not picking the BBQ. It is working out how much kitchen you actually need, and what shape it should be.
Forge has three kitchens. Each is a considered starting point for a different way of cooking, entertaining and using the space — and every one can be reshaped, cabinet by cabinet, in our 3D builder. Here is how to think about which one fits.
Terrasse: the essential cook-and-prep run
A compact straight run of three cabinets — a door-and-drawer cabinet, a Weber-ready BBQ cabinet and open shelving — at 2.22 metres. Cabinets are 715mm deep, so the footprint stays shallow and it works on balconies, decks and smaller terraces where you cannot afford to lose floor space.
Pick a Terrasse if:
- You cook for two to six people most of the time
- You have a wall, fence or covered area to back the kitchen against
- You want a clean, integrated look without dominating the space
Cour: built for the regular host
A fuller run of five cabinets — fridge, open shelving, the Weber BBQ cabinet, a door-and-drawer cabinet and a refuse cabinet — at 3.50 metres. Cold storage and generous bench space, designed for courtyards and patios where entertaining is a weekend habit, not an occasion.
Pick a Cour if:
- You regularly cook for groups of six or more
- You want drinks and prep handled outside, not ferried from the house
- You have a run of three and a half metres or more to work with
Pavillon: the full outdoor kitchen
Six cabinets across 4.28 metres — door and drawer, open shelving, fridge, the Weber BBQ cabinet, a kamado and refuse. The full prep, cook, cold-storage and waste story, and the starting point that suits L and U layouts best once you open it in the builder.
Pick a Pavillon if:
- Outdoor cooking is genuinely the centre of your entertaining
- You want every function to have a dedicated home
- You have a covered alfresco space large enough to let the kitchen breathe
Turning a corner
Straight runs are the simplest, but any of the three can be turned into an L or a U in the builder. A 715 × 715mm corner cabinet takes the turn — one on an L, two on a U — and the builder prices it in and tells you the space the shape needs.
What comes with every kitchen
All three come with the 20mm vein-cut sintered stone benchtop, honed, on marine-grade aluminium cabinets in Forge Black with our signature Ridge pull handle. Cabinets are 720mm high and 715mm deep, giving a 900mm finished bench height. Stone waterfall end panels are an option at either end.
Appliances, sinks and tapware are supplied separately, and that is deliberate — you buy the BBQ, kamado, pizza oven, fridge, bowl and mixer you actually want. Tell us the exact models and we make the cut-outs to them, so everything drops straight in on install day.
Still not sure?
Open any of them in the 3D builder and reshape it to your space — or send a rough sketch or a photo to hello@forgeoutdoor.co.nz. We will tell you which configuration suits, and just as importantly, when none of them do.
We do not sell what does not fit.
